About
My name is Marwa El-Gaby, I’m an educator and the founder of Studious Muslimah.
I’m a qualified secondary school maths teacher and have worked in schools, universities, and other educational settings. I have worked with youth in local, charity, and voluntary organisations. Amongst my university qualifications, are masters degrees in Education and in Economics and Development.
I have been educating and inspiring younger generations for decades: from teaching young children to read Arabic; to working with play groups; to volunteering at university and local events. I was elected as the General Secretary for the Cardiff University student Islamic society, and helped in organising the FOSIS Quran Competition and a Quran Camp. I currently lead a Girls’ Youth Club run by the Shropshire & Telford United Women’s Association (STUWA).
As part of the Muslim Researchers’ Network (MRN) committee, I led the Mentorship and Research Communities team for 18 months. I presented my MA Education research findings during conferences at the University of Oxford and at the Middlesex University (Dubai). I have published an article in the Educational Review journal. I was selected to participate in the Young Muslim Leadership Programme (YMLP) at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in 2022.
I completed a course by the Islamic Educator Learning Community (IELC) entitled: Dialogue in Islamic Classrooms: Using Halaqah to Develop Shakhsiyah. I have also completed the Stage School course on public speaking at The Power of Voice Academy.
Currently, I am studying towards a qualification in the memorisation of the Holy Quran with a highly qualified teacher from the Green Lane Mosque. I also teach Quran (Tajweed and Hifz) to female teenagers and ladies at beginner to intermediate level. I hold an Ijazah in Al Jazariyyah_ a certificate in the memorisation and ability to teach a poem detailing all the tajweed rules necessary for reciting the Holy Quran correctly.
I love to run! I ran the London marathon in 2022, and I am training for it again in 2024. I am part of the Muslims Runners’ group, and have written an article about the 2022 London Marathon experience for the Active Inclusion Network.
